I Is In The Studio!

Yesterday was an interesting day. I woke up early as usual, I did my school work as usual, and I went home as usual. But the thing that wasn't usual that day was my trip to Creative Studio's with my rapper bud Chris Lago. See, Lago had just won our school talent show with the grand prize being 4 hours of payed studio time and let me tell you, those 4 hours were some of the coolest ones I've spent in a while. Upon entering the studio were given a tour and then got straight to work. I think we were both a little flabbergasted at the professionalness of it all, it was a BIG difference from the closet we used to track in. Anyways, by the end of the night we managed to come up with one original tune. Not exactly the most productive of days, but we at least managed to put something out that was hot and professionally mixed. Hopefully I'll be able to show you guys once it's done. That sums up our studio experience. Hopefully all of y'all music hopefuls will have one too!

Keep chasing them dreams, and that paper!

Much love,

Let Me Take You

Far away... Don't matter if it's California or way off in Bombay. It's crazy how when you stop trying you end up doing things more amazing than when you were trying. I've supposedly written my best song a few days ago. It's called "Let Me Take You" and it's basically an ask out plea. Total time spent making? 1 hour. If only school was this easy. If you wanna' check this song out head to my youtube channel!

The weekend was good. Was at two killer parties on Saturday. Started off at the house of Anna Caparas: Guitarist of our band 24th Avenue and then headed out to Kits for another birthday. Both were extremely fun, but left me completely drained the next morning. I luckily had enough energy to watch the Oscars.

It was a big day for Kathryn Bigelow and her team that made "The Hurt Locker" who against the odds won in an upset against James Cameron's "Avatar". I personally wasn't too shocked seeing as how amazing The Hurt Locker actually was. But I can imagine the thousands of tweeners (Yes, I know J. Mullz= hypocrite) sympathizing for the Cameron flick. The visuals were groundbreaking, but the acting for the most part was sub-par and the story... a little cliched. It's extremely entertaining and would be an incredible blockbuster hit, but it wasn't this year's "Best Picture". "Most Innovative"? I'd give it that. Well, at least Avatar won in the categories it truly did shine in. Those are my thoughts and opinions though.

That's all the energy I have for today. I hope you're all doing well, and I'll talk to you guys once again when the boredom resides.

QOTD: What was your favorite Oscar moment?

Mine would have to be a tie with The LXD (Legion of Extraordinary Dancers) performance to the nominated soundtracks and Ben Stiller looking like an Avatar!

Much love,

In an attempt to kill my boredom,

I've decided to take up to this blog that all 2 of you still read, haha. Well I suppose it is good to keep recordings of your life. I actually read over a few of these blogs and found myself laughing at how intelligent and cool I make myself sound. In reality, I'm just a loser.

So it's been a few months, how's everyone been? We here at Vancouver have just started receiving our Spring weather conveniently the day after the Olympics... I pondered talking about the Olympics, but instead of me blogging it I thought it would be much more efficient to just post my Lit paper on the subject which is due next week. But if I must talk about it right now I'll say this. It was probably the greatest thing I, as well as all my fellow Canadians could have asked for at a time like this and it's an experience I'll never soon forget.

As I continue my Senior Year slump, I find myself ever so quickly running out of energy. Along with University stress, and me "trying" to jump-start my career I've got a band director and a choral director that have been just sucking me out to my core. That's not to say they're great people, but it just feels like everyone wants a piece of me and I can only do so much you know? Well, it is my fault for signing up for the programs, and at the end of the day I really do love it. I'll keep you all posted if I ever finally have a mental breakdown and end up killing something, haha.

I hope you all have been well while I was away! Check out my Youtube Channel (listed on the side bar) for a bunch of new videos from some of my Cafe gigs and schtuff!

Much Love,
J. Mullz

My deepest apologies.

Alight, so amongst my incredible amount of fatigue I forgot to give a shout out & link to one of my bromies (homie+bro, I invented it. Let's get it to catch on haha). He is the incredible lyricist Lago. Honestly, this guy is SICK. Rhymes are fresh, flow is ill, and his passion is genuine. Dare I say, it surpasses mine? Hahaha, well if you guys wanna' check it out, his youtube channel is right here.

LAGO MAKES MUSIC

Honestly, you guys won't be disappointed. I guarantee it. It's a cold day today in Canadialand. Well, more specifically in my home located in Vancouver, located in British Columbia. You see, the winter weather FINALLY started kicking in. But of all times to catch me by suprise, Jack Frost decides to visit the house when our heater breaks down... Currently I've resorted to using my computer as a source of heat which explains why I'm particularily enjoying the typing of this blog. But this can only go on for so long. Tomorrow I've got to find an explanation for this.

I hope you all are doing well. Stay strong, and healthy. Don't let winter get to ya'!

Just Taking A Break...

So, I just finished an intense session of Left For Dead 2. My God does that game scare the bejeezuz out of me. Possibly because I, along with many other of my family members do fear a zombie outbreak. It is a possibility, and in fact, when the new Swine Flu Vaccines were issued all I could think was: "Oh God, zombies, Zombies, ZOMBIES!". Damn my overactive, paranoid mind. Maybe I should prescribe myself some Ritalin?

The Weekend, t'was good. I finally got some good relaxation time, or at least more than I usually do. Lately I've been experimenting around with my recording equipment and trying to see what works well. How was the first recording you might ask? Well, to put it simply, it was an epic fail... as usual

See fellow musiceers, one of my most fatal problems with recording myself is the fact that I can never settle for anything less than perfection. But I also realize I can never truly get perfection without a 1000+ program. So I track, and I track, and I track again until my voice is so done that I can't sing anymore... Bad, I know. Anyways, I'm just going to let this blog be a reminder for me to stop being a damn perfectionist and to just go for it. Maybe then I'll have accomplished something worthwhile (recording wise).

If you guys wanna' hear what I came up with you can check it out here @ Z-Share. No download necessary, just click the link and it'll play in a media player (No, I don't work for Z-Share, I just think they're awesome, hahaha)

I'M YOUR MAN (DEMO RECORDING)- J-MULLZ

And with that I'm off. I hope you're all doing well. Stay healthy this winter!

Much Love,

Solo Sessions II

Wow, super tired...

Got back a while ago from one of the greatest open mic sessions in Vancouver. The Solo Sessions is a series of open mic sessions hosted by Studio Cloud 30 which showcases Vancouver's up and coming talent. The people who perform here are amazing and I actually feel really grateful for being able to lay down a couple songs of my own. If you guys want more info on Studio Cloud 30 check out there website! STUDIO CLOUD 30

That's all I have the energy to write for folks. Remember to stay healthy, it's the winter season so try to prevent those coughs and sniffles!

Much Love,

The Man Who Stares At Phones

I spent a large portion of my time today battling a dry throat whilst making a series of phone calls to parents. Not the greatest combination of situations but I managed to get through it. The rest of my day was spent trying to stay awake and pay attention, which is something I'm rarely able to do. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the situation. I suppose I'll laugh, it'll make the passing days feel brighter. Currently working on English and Music Theory, or at least I like telling myself that. Honestly I haven't done a single thing. I just need someone to give me a kick in the ass.

Question For Reflection: How much of a procrastinator are you? What can you do to help organize and motivate yourself better in these situations?

I hope you all are doing well.

Much love,
~J. Mullz
